The Seer on Audible

After all this time and hard work, I can finally introduce The Seer on Audible… You might recall my previous post announcing the audiobook production. In it, I introduced the voice actor who performed the book: Price Waldman. You’re not going to believe how it all went down…

But first, in case you don’t know this about audiobook production, narrators are usually also the producers. So, they do everything from narrating to editing the finished recording.

They sort of have to be a jack of all trades. Which means they spend a fair amount of time preparing – going through the book, creating voices for each character.

Then they record the reading, which takes a long time. And only after that, they get to edit the piece, deleting dead space and breaths and other things that might distract a reader from the narration.

Eventually, it’s my turn to listen for errors that the voice actor must go back and correct. Voice actors don’t get paid on the amount of time they put into it. They only get paid on the finished hours – the hours we listen to. As you can imagine, there are a ton more hours poured into a piece than you will actually listen to.

Our case was unique. Almost immediately after production began, covid19 hit. You might remember how sudden it came about. Well, Price Waldman lives in one of the hardest hit states, New York, where he works from home as a voice actor.

I can’t disclose everything that happened without consulting him first, so I’ll just say he’s gone through a lot to get this audiobook produced. Despite all that he endured, he was determined to honor our contract. Though at times it seems it wouldn’t happen, Price Waldman finished right on schedule.

Even more impressive, Waldman performed magnificently. I absolutely love what he’s done with these characters, the voice he’s given each of them. You are going to LOVE his rendition of The Seer, I know it. See for yourself…

A few comments I received via email from listeners (whose names I won’t list here for their privacy):

  • “Well read.”
  • “Terrific narration!!! Very Anthony Hopkins/Silence Of The Lambs!!”
  • “…from that little snippet the man who narrated it sounded perfect and had just the right tones and pitches as he read. I can’t wait to hear the full book…”
  • “This book has captured my attention.”
  • “I really like the narrator’s voice.”
  • “Love it!”

  1. Price Waldman says:

What a lovely surprise! I was about to check in with AR to congratulate on The Seer becoming available on Amazon, iTunes and when I see this wonderful post! It was a real pleasure diving into the world AR has created. Emily and Lucien are such rich characters and the supporting cast are all so interesting! I hope you all enjoy listening to it as much as I did narrating!

  2. Shawn says:

Thanks for the sample, I can’t wait to listen to it when I’m having to drive different places!

  3. Sophie says:

Love it!!! I can’t believe the narrator was in New York during all this. Hope he’s OK!

    1. Price says:

Hi Sophie– Price here, so glad you like the narration. As for me and my family, we are hunkered down here in Brooklyn staying safe. Thanks so much for asking. I so enjoyed narrating The Seer and hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
